Old Bailey Court Decision
« on: Thursday 26 February 15 06:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi my ancestor was tried at the Old Bailey in April 1902 and was sentenced to imprisonment for 18 months with hard labour.
I understand Newgate Prison was closed in 1902 can you please help me to find out where he went to prison and if records are available to search online.

Thank you

Hi Wiggy

Not sure if I should mention your name....I have all the Court Proceedings and I know the sentence but it does not say which prison he is being sent to and I don't know where to look.
Need help finding something online......

Pentonville perhaps.
Although tried at the Old Bailey it doesn't necessarily mean he was incarcerated in London.

Was it a Middlesex case, or a Central Criminal Court case?

If it was a Middlesex case then I believe that he would probably have been sent to Wormwood Scrubs.
