Welcome from me too!!

Very few of us are professional researchers, but as a body all the willing members have a wealth of experience & information which is given freely & usually with much humour. Not all of us have experience of looking for possibly living people but as you say. who knows something might jive with someone.
I'm finding this site rather difficult to use and not sure whether l'm posting private or public messages. I will individually message to thank everyone who has offered help and advice when l get more familiar with the site.
If you reply via the blue 'REPLY' button at the bottom of the post, it'll be public. If you click on the 'text' icon under a member's avatar, you have the opportunity to 'private message' or pm them. The text icon is green when they are online, but you can pm them at any time. You get an email link if someone has pm'ed you. Most members are quite content with a public thank you, no need to pm everybody who helps.

but if your father DID look though the school gates for you, he may have looked for you since. The Salvation Army, for instance, may have a record if he approached them. If he was born in 1932, there certainly need be no assumption he has died, he'd only be 82.

What about looking in old Yellow Pages for printing firms in the area? I wonder if he played & sang in local pubs & might be remembered?

I have a copy of my original birth certificate for the district of Stepney, dated 1954 but does not give the month.
The reference jim1 quoted as Mar would refer to the registration taking place in the first quarter, ie Jan - Mar, of the year, not the exact month.

Re-reading that post re birth certificate. . . . .

Month only = You have only the reference NOT the certificate?

"You get an email link if someone has pm'ed you. "

But NOT if you have emails switched off in your profile.

Something is amiss somewhere, is it the quarter of registration being referred to by the OP?

" I have a copy of my original birth certificate for the district of Stepney, dated 1954 but does not give the month. The space for details of my father are blank"

You're right & that's what I thought [and Ray I suspect] - hence posts #10 & #12. It would be good if the OP clarified this. I wondered if he only had a 'short' certificate?

Josey = Correct assumption  :)

David(John), how do you supply your full date of birth when asked?
Where did/do you get that information?
