Dorset to Newfoundland abt.1813
« on: Tuesday 03 March 15 21:03 GMT (UK) »
New to the list and hoping for some help. My ggggrandfather born in Sixpenny Handley in 1795 shows up getting married in Newfoundland in 1818. Has anyone any idea where he could have sailed from? I'm thinking Poole but may have been elsewhere. I don't know if he traveled to Newfoundland as a passenger or worked his way on a ship. Any help or suggestions on where to look would be very much appreciated.

Hi,

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)  There is a lot of information available on the connection between Poole and Newfoundland; here's one example from Dorset OPC:

Google "Poole to Newfoundland".
