I find this post a little undernourished, and suggest that some leg work be done by firstly finding the censuses and images for this couple to establish some bona fide details.   the censuses once found will indicate some of the children if indeed there are any, and to what end one can find furthering vital statistics such as death, probate and also  indicators of their Irish heritage.

I am going to suggest the thorough use of family search.org for this post to give you the opportunity of eliminating some of the many possibles as both surnames are common............

I believe that those amongst us specialising in Irish research will agree with me that you need to have more detailed work as the couple could have come from virtually anywhere in Ireland.

Please dont be put off by my comments but we do like to see some background material done .... maybe you have already discovered some facts of children or other material, and hope you expand the post for us to use as markers when we are searching............

good luck with this

Hi lawnranger,
Here are some ideas for the kind of information that might be help in getting started.

Did Charles CLIFFORD also go to US? (This is not quite clear in your post)

Are Charles CLIFFORD and Mary HART a married couple in a later part of your family tree?

Is it the Irish origins you are wanting to learn more about, or their later life?

You seem certain about Mary HART's birth year, what records have you used for the information?

By starting with all you do know, we can possibly progress to what you do not :)

Sue

Thanks to both of you on the feedback, I am new at this.  Here goes:  Mostly I am interested in connecting to where they were from in Ireland.  Yes, Charles and Mary were married, I don't have anymore info. on those two.  The reference for the dates on Mary are from 1850 US Census and a passenger list when she emigrated.

Where were they in 1850?  Do you have death dates for them?  It's possible that a death certificate or obituary might have hints about their parents/siblings or where they were from, but it can be difficult to get much in the way of details from US records from that time frame.

I found a family tree that puts this couple in La Salle Co., Illinois from 1850-1880.  The tree says Mary Jane was the daughter of John Hart & Isabella Malone, who were both born Co. Roscommon.  It says Mary Jane died about 1890 in Chicago.  It also says Charles was born Co. Limerick.  It doesn't seem to have any specific sources about the places in Ireland, but maybe there is some information somewhere to support it.

Wow, thanks Shellyesq. Can I get a link to that tree?  The Limerick connection is unknown to me.

There are a few trees mentioning this couple on Ancestry.com, including the one I mentioned above.
