Where do I go now 1800 s
« on: Thursday 05 March 15 21:03 GMT (UK) »
Can someone direct me please? I have traced my GG grandfather and mother to their marriage in 1834, and as registration is now parish records , I m not sure where to go next. Heres the thing.....

Robert  Davies, married Mary (H)Arpin in 1834 . I have the parish records for this. No details of parents for Robert. He was born in Buckley Flintshire around 1811 .. the date varies on the census. How , if I can, do I find Roberts parents? He was a Blacksmith, and moved to Shropshire where he met Mary.I would love to establish Welsh roots, my family are indigenous pottery/ miners in Stoke on Trent which has been relatively easy but is what has pushed me to find where they originated from .

Davies is not an easy name to research.

Well, the good news is that Flint Baptisms with their images are on FindMyPast

The bad news is that Buckley's church was only inaugurated in 1822 so you need to find out what parish it was in before then.

According to http://maps.familysearch.org/#search it seems to be right at a junction of 4 possibles and it doesn't give their names

So first finding that out would be my suggestion

Maybe these guys can help http://www.clwydfhs.org.uk/

Good luck!

Buckley was a Chapelry made out of Hawarden Parish so that's the Parish to look in first.
There are 3 Robert Davies' listed as being Baptised there, 1 born 1806; 1 born 1809 & 1 born 1812.
The images are on FindMyPast but don't worry if you don't have a sub as they're having a free weekend this week.
There is another born 1814 Mold which is about the same distance from Buckley as Hawarden.
His parents are Edward & Jane which I notice are 2 of his children's names.
He consistently says he was born in 1814/15.

Thanks so much, it gives me something to work on..... there is just certain times when gg grandad is none too sure of his age... understandable I expect. The 1812 and maybe the 1815 seem to be the  most possible, I suppose there comes a point where you have to take a chance, I don t think I will get back any further just want to establish Welsh roots, the other side is Irish lol...

Thanks again, Im off to check those leads.. its a bit addictive this ancestry  :-*

Hi.... thanks for that.. I checked back and with other info I had and I m pretty certain, gg grandad Robert is the one in Mold.... So nice to have that settled, His  wife was a "base" child so I don t think I will find much there, and I might try to find a bit more about his parents... gets difficult though.

My other side lies in Ireland. !! ::)
