We need advice - Unicorn cemetery Vendhuile France
« on: Tuesday 10 March 15 15:49 GMT (UK) »
My friend and I need your advice,

We had hoped to visit our ancestors graves in France next year.

My Great Uncle was buried in Yres and every coach company seems to go there so no problem. But my friends Uncle was buried in Unicorn cemetery Vendhuile France.
Neither of us can drive or speak the language  so really need a coach tour.  Been to a travel company and contacted Legers coach company with no luck.  Yes they all go to Yres but because Unicorn is a small war cemetery no.

Has anyone got any suggestions, we are desperate
Any help would be appreciated.

There is this, don't know what the price would be, but perhaps worth an ask.

May it be an idea to look online, and see if locally to the area you wish to visit there is any local society concerned with History, especially War graves, and contact them asking for assistance and advice? Is there perhaps a twinning arrangement with a British town or city that you may be able to speak to? Or perhaps some organisation like the British Legion may have contacts in the area, and be able to assist with arrangements to make a "side-tour" from a more regular coach tour? It really does seem as if it ought to be possible to solve this, somehow.... good luck!

Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

The British Legion have a tour company called Poppy Tours.
Maybe they could help?

It is now called Remembrance Tours.
I have found the Legion and its tours very helpful in the past- their tour guide took photos of my uncle's WW2 grave in Imphal India for me - very kind and a great comfort to my mother.
I suggest you tell them what the problem is and they may be able to help.

Thanks for your advice. I have sent a e-mail to the British legion.

Contact this chap in Ieper. I've heard he will customise visits, including into France:

Apart from that you may wish to contact the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's office in France who may point you in the right direction:

Hi Helina,
I know it was six years ago from this post, but I was wondering if you had any luck getting a trip to the Unicorn Cemetery in France. I have just found my great uncle is also buried there and would like to visit this year.

Kind regards

Maryanne

There is a superb War Museum at Peronne.
Look up Holt’s Tours, they are very good ,or buy their books with maps and listed memorials, cemeteries etc.
There are tours organised by the Holts .
