Ivy May Grace, NSW, Australia
« on: Wednesday 11 March 15 23:45 GMT (UK) »
My grandmother Martha May BRUCE aka Harriet b:c1884 England, was married to Alfred BIGGS in England then she married my gf in 1916 immigrated to Aus with new husband (my gf) Charles BRUCE with 2 children one of whom was Ivy. G.M .

I have found something in Police Gazette 1929:  Wilfred James Maxwell, offence-marry a girl knowing her to be under 21 years of age without obtaining her mother's consent--Ivy Grace May Biggs to come up for sentence if called upon within 3 years, to be of good behaviour during that period.

then I found....
Police Gazette 1930....under "missing friends"...
At the instance of May BRUCE (my gm Martha May BRUCE), residing at 30 Dowling St, Kingsford, to a view to trace her daughter, Ivy Grace May BRUCE, aged 16 years, 5 feet high, stout build, fair complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, speaks with a lisp, left Women's Hospital, Crown St, Sydney on the 12th February last and not since heard of.  May have returned to her herbund, James Maxwell, a well known criminal.

My query is, could she have been pregnant?  if so, how can I find out any information please.

Cheers

Hi Chrissy,
This article says the reason Wilfred married her was because she was expecting.

Hi there,

Can you please confirm that your person of interest is no longer living?    (Likely around 100 to 103 years of age,   I have living rellies, alive and alert, residing in NSW who are older  :) and very protective of their privacy.)

ADD
And of course, if as seems likely, there was a child born to this lass, in NSW in 1930, then may I gently mention that there's the NSW BDM 100 year restricted access for birth certificates that will apply, and that person if living is also entitled to privacy of the individual.

Cheers,  JM

Here's a thread from the Australia Board that discusses RChat's Living Persons Policy.  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=368728.0

So, did you know already about your person of interest marrying when quite young?  Does her signature on that 1929 NSW marriage cert match up to your own family's private papers from your Gran,  or was this NSW Gazette info also new info, found as a result perhaps of an online Ancestry search?

So, basically, how sure are you that the info is actually for your family and not for someone else's family .....

 Dear JM,

1) No I didn't know she married that young but I knew she was with him
2) I never mentioned a marriage certificate, I haven't found one yet
3) the gazette was new info, today, found on ancestry
4) positive she is family, she is my late dad's half sister

hope this helps and I'm sorry if I have caused any problems or upset anyone, i didn't know anyone other than my parents and my sister, they never told me anything... I'm new to this and get excited when I find family..................

Cheers

Of course,  yes, and once upon a time I too was new to family history.   (Add, I still get that thrill when I find some new info, hopefully I always will)

The marriage is indexed at the NSW BDM's online index.   I would usually suggest obtaining a transcription to confirm the marriage.  But, I do know that it is very likely that by the 1920s, all parties to a marriage were literate, and therefore able to sign their names, and that the NSW BDM records for marriages for that era will be images, and most likely will include the signatures of the bride, the groom, and the two witnesses.   I am not suggesting you rush out and order it, just pop it on a wish list.

It will be quite difficult to search out for the child born in early 1930 in NSW, so please do not anticipate achieving that without some help from some professional organisations, perhaps a read of the following may give you some early assistance, but it will not be an easy task, and very likely not done via online searchings.
