Yes, Coppull station was open well before the period you describe. The extant building used to be the goods shed; it is now used as a car workshop.
At the period you describe, Coppull would have been mostly agricultural; its first mill (Coppull Ring Mill) was built much later.
All around, though, were coal pits, and Birkacre was by that time a major calico printing works. "Sans Pareil", of Rainhill Trials fame, spent its last working days raising steam at Coppull Colliery, close to Birkacre, but was removed to a museum in 1863.
Spendmore Lane, now the main route through Coppull, was sometimes referred to as "Back Lane". The old main route was along Chapel Lane, where the only church at that time (which is NOT dedicated to any saint) is found.
The few spinners and weavers would have walked north to work at "Pincock", through Charnock Richard and just over the border into Euxton, or through Burgh to Chorley. Neither would be an easy walk, but our ancestors had little choice and went much further on foot than we imagine. The current B5251 (New Road/Coppull Road) was only built in the thirties. Even Birkacre Road only appeared in the 1890s.
