Mary Tebby in Oxfordshire / Berkshire

Hi, I am trying to find out more about the ancestors of Mary Tebby, born abt 1801. She had a son, John Richings Tebby in 1819 in Kingston Bagpuize, and appears to working as a servant in the 1841 and 1851 census' in Wheatfield, Oxfordshire. The 1851 Census shows this Mary as being born in Waterperry. There are no records (or at least difficult to link) before or after these events.

Waterperry,_Oxfordshire_Church records are held by Oxfordshire Family History Soc., and you have to pay for information. see the following :- https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Waterperry,_Oxfordshire_Genealogy

the only items for Waterperry on the IGI are Baptisms 1711 -1789.  You can search these on
www.familysearch.org  using Batch Number C047011.  Searching this produces only 1 result for
the surname Tebby/Tebbey

Marey Tebbey  Chris. 7th June 1789 Parents John & Susanna Tebbey.

Could this possibly be your Mary Tebby?

Another twist. I have been working with another family researcher in this. We (mostly he) have discovered that Mary Tebby married the son of the family she was working for in the 1851 census. In the 1861 and 1871 she is Mary Green, wife of John Green in Lewknor. She is still listed as being born in Waterperry around 1801. Also The head of the family she was working for left her some money in his will around 1855, but he calls her Mary Tubby. There are Tubbys in Waterperry, but I can't find a Mary in 1801.
Nor can I find a suitable marriage record for John and Mary.

Thanks Daisy, I had seen this but wasn't sure as it was a fair way from Lewknor. The names fit though.

Hi,

I found these using Ancestry, in the "London, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921" they have the image of the wedding cert.

John GREEN gives LEWKNOR as his residence so it looks like the right couple. I think that there are many reasons that they might have married away from home..... Mary could have left the area after being left some money and John missed her and went after her.....Maybe the marriage was frowned upon so they eloped.....etc

Why couldn't they have just written down their life stories for us to read, especially when they sound extra interesting and have puzzles that we may never know the answers to
