Baptism of Thomas Alfred WALKER 1848
« on: Sunday 15 March 15 14:01 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find a baptism record for Thomas (Alfred) Walker born in 1848.
In the  1891 census it says he was born in Dudley, Staffordshire but in 1901 census it says Netherton, Worcestershire.  I know that the boundaries changed.  Can anyone help please?  Thanks.

Hi. Welcome to Rootschat.
Are you certain it was 1848. Do you have parents  names or father from marriage certificate.
Was Thomas Alfred a surgeon ?
Census information is Crown Copyright (see: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk)

Hi
Thank you very much for all your help with my quest. Yes, Thomas Alfred Walker was a medical practitioner and I have census records for him from 1891 but with his then family, wife Ellen (but it should be Helen, nee Ashwin).  I have also found 1881 census with Helen and two daughters but not Thomas. I cannot find him on any census as yet for 1881.
I did not know he had married before Helen so I will now look further into that bit.
I cannot find a marriage record for Thomas & Helen in any county via Findmypast website so if anyone has any information on that I'd be very grateful.
Thomas & Helen are my husband's maternal great grandparents.  Thanks everyone.

I think this is Thomas in 1881 living in Clarence St, Sedgely

Thomas A. Walker 33 General Practitioner b Worcester Dudley
Ernest H. Walker 7  Son
Frances M. Walker 3 Daughter
Horace Walker 1 Son
Ellen Tromans 30 Cook
Annie Bordall 17 Nurse
RG11 Piece 2868 Folio 118 Page 23

And 1871 Living at Dispensary House Priory Dudley

Thomas A Walker 25  Dudley - Surgeon - House Surgeon and Dispensory
Sarah W Walker    27 Brierley Hill Staffordshire
Ann Tranter 20 Servant
RG10 Piece 3011 Folio 37 Page 33

I can't see a marriage for Thomas to his second wife Helen either - presumably because Sarah was still alive.  She living with her son Ernest and his family in the last census

The tree is on Anc, but it quite complicated.

Helen Ashwin Handley
Birth 24 July 1853 in  Edgbaston
Death 20 Feb 1932 in  Hampshire, England

She is down as having married in Queensland Australia
8 Dec 1875 Henry William Wilkins Birth abt 1841 in  Hampshire, England

BUT , this tree has her  in 1881
Hammersmith London.
Helen Walker  marr  27 Birmingham, Warwickshire
Edith Walker  dau 2 b Staffordshire
Murie M. Walker  dau 9 months b Warwickshire.

And in 1891 with Thomas A Walker.
 So - he has two "wives" in 1881  :o :o :o
