Irish Emigration Process 1840's
« on: Sunday 15 March 15 18:17 GMT (UK) »
Trying to search my family tree and pin down with more certainty the location of my ancestors just prior to leaving Ireland. Can anyone provide information about the "process" itself? Once a poor family decided to leave or knew they were leaving in short order, would there have been notices in publications? landlords to deal with? parish or townland records of some type? Any help or comments are appreciated!

Where were they travelling to? Elsewhere in the UK or further ashore...

Unlikely there would be special notices really normally. The migrant population was active in this period. Sometimes there were records kept, when specific worker/families were being moved around by estate owners for example.  More detail would help here in respect of your own ancestors.

Thanks for the post...my information is they traveled from Fermanagh County in Ireland to Canada...more than likely thru Montreal...... they ended up in the Illinois & Iowa area of the United States.
