Carry on drinking

'Lips That Touch Liquor Shall Not Touch Ours'

If you had been around in 1919 and came upon the following poster I mean, seriously ... wouldn't you just keep drinking?

I thought that this was a piece of social history and appropriate for this part of the forum

I think it's meant to be funny - i.e. a theatrical tableau mocking a serious anti drinking movement.

Whilst I entirely understand what you mean, I've always been affected by recalling what my mother said about my granddad, and how frightened she was of him when he came back from drinking his wages away down the pub.  Not so much about the odd glass of beer as the man who drank all the money leaving nothing for the family.  It affected her for the rest of her life, she would never willingly enter a pub.   :(
