No I've found it difficult to find anything on John Patterson, perhaps he wasn't born in Norfolk. I think that Patterson is possibly a more 'northern' name, but I don't know. Thank you for everything else though, you've been very helpful :)

Just stumbled across this thread - these people are my direct ancestors  :D

Like you I am still searching for John Patterson.  I don't know whether it's a northern name but some of the family ended up in the north.

I am always interested in the Patterson name esp relating to Great Yarmouth.
My 4th Great Grandmother was Ann PATTERSON who married James NEWBY, 22 Nov 1760 Lowestoft, Suffolk.
They had Children (ones I have found are);
James 1753
Mary 1767
John 1778-1849***, he Married Charlotte GARWOOD 1799 Suffolk
There Children were born Great Yarmouth;
2 of their Sons were named John Patterson Newby and James Patterson Newby.
I am descended from their Daughter Mary Ann Hannah Newby 1820-1909

I have nothing else on Ann Patterson.
James Newby originated from London.

Trish :)

Up until last year I was in contact with a Robert Patterson,  but sadly he passed away while I was on holiday. He told me that the family may have came from Scotland, but he also suffered with dementia so other times he wouldn't know anything about it. I didn't know him for long, but he really was a lovely lovely man, he was cousins with my grandfather as my grandfathers mother was Eliza Mary Ann Patterson.

Hi Trish

Matthew Patterson the Tug Master and his wife Eliza ( Nee Knights ) were my GG Grandparents.
One of their sons who was called Christmas who was named after one of Matthews brothers was my Great Grandfather.
Kind regards
Sid
