DFM lookup request
« on: Friday 20 March 15 23:05 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone with access to Distinguished Flying Medal citations help me with a lookup?
Sgt Hubert Arthur Hatfield of RAF 50 Squadron was posted in the London Gazette in August 1943. His RAF number was 1058552. I would greatly appreciate knowing specifically what he got the DFM for ... another piece in my family history jigsaw.
Many thanks if you can help.

Hi CousinCurious,

A very warm welcome to Rootschat!

Sgt Hubert Arthur Hatfield appears in the Supplement to the London Gazette of 17th August 1943.

Here is a link to the page if you don't already have it: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/36135/supplement/3684

He is second from the top on the right hand side.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David

Thank you very much DavidJP ... I have seen the London Gazette listing but would greatly value sight of the full citation. I believe there is a scarce out-of-print reference book of DFM citations and I'm hoping someone on RootsChat has access to one.

No, the book was by Ian Tavender, I am someone else.

Decided to look up Mr Tavender, interesting, perhaps false, article about him:

Interesting indeed, not least as I'm in Sheffield myself ... sorry about my confusion ... I'm still heading for the library!
