old photos in frames
« on: Monday 23 March 15 13:36 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone,   I have two more photos which need a date.
The man by himself has a cap on, would that be a Navy one ? This is in very bad condition...

The man and the children in the second one - the photo isn't blurred in its original small size.  The man seems to have a glove or something around his hand around the child...  From his hairstyle and clothes, perhaps that can give you a clue.

Many thanks again, Liz

Gosh, these look quite old!  The daters will be along, but I think the cap in the first one could be merchant navy rather than Royal Navy.

And in the second, if I'm not mistaken, the female figure you refer to as a child will be a young lady (hair up, so definitely grown up) and I think that's a crinoline which will make the photo 1860's.  May actually be man and wife - definitely closely related.

Jim and China and the other experts (I'm definitely not one) will give you a more definite view.

Lovely old photos though!  :D

As far as a date is concerned, do you think that this photo could be a child of the couple I already posted above ?
There is another child which I will give you in next post

One last question !!  The man above with the navy cap , could he possibly be the same as the photo attached, at a later date ....  Difficult I know, but you have so much more experience than I do.
A thousand thanks for everything, I really appreciate all your advice.

Has the man got his arm around the lady - or is it the back of a chair?

Just wondering . . . . .

How lovely to have such old photos.

The ambrotypes of the children are around the same dates as the others.
The last photo is 1860's-70's. You really need to show the whole card if you want a more accurate date.
It's quite possible they are one in the same.
