Henry Murnin Workington dob 1893
« on: Thursday 26 March 15 21:15 GMT (UK) »
We are looking for any information regarding my husbands grandfather Henry Murnin. Dob 1893. Henry  married Margaret Kennedy in 1919 and they had a baby girl also called Margaret. Henry's wife died shortly after the baby was born and she was brought up by her mothers family, so other than names found in census records we have no knowledge of the  Murnins. Any information or photos would be gratefully received.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

Your post suggests you already have the 1901 census entry for Henry.  Are you looking for information about him after his wife's death?

I can't see any death registration for him

Yes we are. My husband would like to know about his grandfathers life and if any of the Murnins know the story of him and Margaret

We can't find any death registration either but we THINK he was a merchant seaman during  the last war and came into Liverpool where he may have remarried again when he was in his 50,s

Are you referring to the 1944 marriage in Birkenhead?  It was a civil marriage so you would have to buy a copy of the certificate to confirm it is the same Henry

Winifred Murnin died 21.7.1961 aged 69 and there is a probate entry for her but it just says she was a widow of 4 Water St Birkenhead.  Administration was granted to Mary Ann Hughes - married woman and effects were £525

Yes indeed what we are really trying to find out though is there anyone out there who knew him or knows a surviving relative that may give us a personal insite to him.

Hi Alexbeth,

A warm welcome to Rootschat.

On the National Archives website there is the following WW2 Medal listing for medals issued to Merchant Seamen.

Murnin, Henry; Date of Birth: 13th July 1892; Discharge No: R223023

No place of birth shown unfortunately. Neither does it show which medal he was awarded.

Here is a link to the record:  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01f14/

The file can be downloaded for a fee of £3.30 though.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David
