Police Officer Records
« on: Wednesday 01 April 15 14:44 BST (UK) »
Dear All,

I discovered that an ancestor of mine was a Police Sergeant.  And the 1911 census informs me he resided on the Redditch Road in Kings Norton, Birmingham.

I wondered does anyone have any knowledge on how I could find more about him.  Perhaps, such things as work records, where he was stationed and what life was like for a police officer at this time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Stuart

On discovering a family of Police ancestors spanning three counties I found the local branches of the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO) http://www.narpo.org/very helpful.

Electoral Rolls helpfully showed one new officer living in various Police Station Houses in the Divisional Area.

I'd recommend seeking out Divisional Group photographs which, in my experience, were taken regularly and often are found with names.
