Unexpected "tooltips" in browser
« on: Thursday 02 April 15 19:43 BST (UK) »
Split off from another topic:

If you hover with the mouse over that "little icon" you should see a tooltip "Page view" (see also the Help page from my previous reply.

Not working for me I'm afraid - just getting the text "Shift+R etc . . .". Whereas the tooltip shows "View Forum Profile" then all the Shift+R stuff against the icon by my handle as researcher for my two Burdons.

Hmmm, don't understand that  ???

I've added 4 screen-shots, where I'm hovering with the cursor (without clicking anything !) over the 4 marked items.

"Shift + R" ?  Where is that showing ?

Bob

ps I'm using FireFox

added: same picture with Opera

Hi again,
I looked at the same record but could not image the tooltips as pressing a key closes them.  I got the "Show All" and "Show all records from" but as mentioned before, only the "Shift+R etc" against the page view icon and "View Forum Profile . . . Shift+R etc" against the RH icon

I'm using the latest Firefox for Win7 - v36.0.4.

Normally I use 'Alt' and 'PrtScr' to make a screen shot of the aktive window, but, as you also noticed, the tooltip then disappears.

If I just press PrtScr I get the tool tip as well.

Sorry, but I just can't imagine where the "Shift+R" comes from. It doesn't appear in any of the program scripts.

Well here are the two offending ones. Sadly it doesn't show the pointer. I never knew you could use PrtSc on its own.

I cleared my cache too thinking it might help ???

Wow !  I've never seen that before.

It seems to be something from the browser, but how and why .... ???

Thanks very much for that Bob - it answers a lot of things where I didn't even realise that I had a problem. I had experimented with stopping all the Firefox add-ons I run, to no avail. I even tried IE10 which I normally never use on-line and got the identical result as with Firefox. T-Mobile seems to be the culprit!

I will chase up the plug-in mentioned in the second link and report back when I've tested it. Since we have drifted well off topic perhaps it might be opportune to split it off to Technical Help(*).

Thanks for the assistance.

Well that sure is the answer. It works a treat and all the tooltips now come up as intended.

The Modify Headers thing is a Firefox Add-on not a plug-in and available from the Mozilla Add-ons website. It's a bit confusing so I've added a screen grab below with the parameters needed once it is installed. Open up Tools/Add-ons and click on Modify Headers' Options button and the screen below will open for you to insert the text exactly as shown. Do not forget to click 'Enable' before OK to close the window. Job done.

My thanks to the programmer Gareth Hunt and to Bob for finding it.
