McDOUGALL family
« on: Wednesday 06 July 05 23:22 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I am just new to this forum and am looking for information about the McDOUGALL family of Roxboroughshire.
My ancesters are Archibald McDougall b 1779. His father was David McDougall of Caverton Mill and his father David McDougall.
A McDougall ancester was the wife of Rev. Joseph Yair of Eckford Church.

I am interested in ANY leads anyone may have  about the family.

Thanks

Hi Lisa
Some members of a Mcdougall family from Kelso in roxburghshire went first to London and then to Australia around 1798 , Sir Joseph Banks having assisted them. Any chance your McDougalls may be connected?
They are as follows
Thomas McDougall (b.Abt 1680;m.1698)
Robert McDougall (b.1701-Kelso,Roxburgshire,Scotland;m.9 Apr 1724)
Thomas McDougall (b.20 Aug 1736 Kelso,Roxburghshire,Scotland;d.19 Apr 1792)

Andrew McDougall (b.9 Jun 1759-Kelso,C,Scotland;m.15 May 1786;d.20 Mar 1824-Roxburgh Place,BH,C,NSW, Australia)

Hello
I think I might have relative connected to your:

GGGG grandfather Archibald McDougall b 1779 Cessford? m 1814 Eckford Christian Archbald

I am related to a Jessie Johnstone McDougall she was born 9 june and baptised 10 August in 1830 though,  her father is Archibald McDOugall her mother a Christian (archibald) McDougall..... not sure the dates match up though. She is recorded later as being born in Eckford in later censuses.

She married a Thomas Somerville Rutherford and their son William George Rutherford went to NZ in 1885. I have his siblings details also.

Hello.

I notice you are also interested in Lambs in Roxburghshire.  have a look at the topic of 'Shoemakers in Kelso'.  I'm just starting to try to make sense of the Lamb family and there may be links with your flock.

I seem to have an very extensive list of our section of the McDougalls going back from current times to Thomas MagDougall B 1670. Married 1698 to Isabell Thomson.

Does anyone have anything going back prior to Thomas in 1670 ?''

Trying to work out if they are from the Makerstoun line or nearby Roxborough or Kelso ?
Any feedback appreciated.

Hi,

I realise this post is very old but hopefully you're still around.

These are my ancestors. Andrew McDougall who migrated to Australia in 1798 was my GGGG Grandfather.

I am stuck finding out more solid details about the Thomas McDougall (father of Robert) born in the 17th century probably in Makerstoun.

Any more info would be fantastic.

Cheers,
Will
