Looking for relatives back in Ireland
« on: Tuesday 07 April 15 22:03 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am brand new to this site. I would like to visit County Offaly and/or Kildare one day to find some of my grandparents' family that may still be there. Ancestry.com has not been useful so far. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Joe

Welcome to Rootschat.
Church records will be available online shortly.
Did you try National archives Census 1901 and 1911.Available on Askaboutireland.
Familysearch.org is also worthwhile

The information available online firstly depends on what dates you are talking about- pre-registration, mid-1800s to mid-1900s, recent?
If you can make a connection between your grandparents and the 1911 census then there's a chance you will be able to get an exact location (townland or street) which will be useful in further searches- or do you already know where they lived?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
