Tom Costello
« on: Wednesday 08 April 15 01:25 BST (UK) »
Tom Costello married Mary Davey in Ireland in the 1800s and they are my great grandparents. They had a son named John who is my grand father. I have some information about Tom Costello but nothing about Mary Davey. Can anyone assist please?

Tom and Mary's children were Patrick, John, Kathleen, Tom, Hugh, Mary, Martin and Veronica.

Do you have the correct Tom and Mary. I think Mary's name was spelt Davey not Davy. John was born in the 1860s, that's all I know and probably came to Australian in the 1880s.

Don't worry too much about spelling- our ancestors never did  :) Davy and Davey are just 2 different versions of the same name.

There's also Thomas/Tom from the 2 lists of children.

STJEAN says they have more information on Thomas Costello- perhaps that would help us find information.

Kathleen (Catherine) Costello married a chap named Pat Skelly in Brisbane and had children Ena, Kitty and Maggie, Mary married a chap named Cramer in Brisbane and had 3 girls, and Veronica (maybe Ellen) remained in Ireland and married a chap named O'Grady they had children Mick, Hugh, Martin and Pat. I believe the former Martin (Tom's son) was killed in South Africa. I never knew we had a Michael, maybe he was Tom Michael???

The reason nothing is available on John Costello was because the church at Doocastle and Dublin Registry were burnt down in the 1860s, this may have been the case for Pat and Tom as well.

Is there any information on Tom Costello and Mary Davy's siblings, I have nothing.

Also is there anything on the previous generation to Tom Costello?

Regards, Denis Costello, Brisbane

...

Not sure about the church records being burnt but civil registration of births started in 1864. ALL civil birth, marriage and death records survive.
