"North Bridgewater" (Brockton) Massachusetts RC Churches
« on: Thursday 09 April 15 03:36 BST (UK) »
I would like to know the names of possible Catholic Churches my gr-gr-gr-grandfather William Gilmore may have been married in. He settled in N. Bridgewater (Brockton), Mass. from Westmeath, Ire. His wife was Mary Gegan.  Their 1st daughter was born in 1847, so I am targeting that time frame for the marriage. I haven't had any luck finding RC churches in Brockton at that time.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Thanks!

If you are still looking for an answer...
it appears that members met in private houses circa 1847.  Apparently, in 1859, a church building was dedicated.

Thank you, Lisa. This is very interesting. This might explain why there doesn't seem to be a record of marriage. If marriages were taking place in private houses, I would imagine not every marriage was documented.
Thanks again!

You're welcome; I wish I could be of more help.   :-\

Perhaps you could try contacting the archdiocese to see if they can tell you if records would have been available for that time period?  The state may not have records, but the archdiocese might?
