1881 Census in Saltburn by the Sea
« on: Saturday 11 April 15 14:47 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a relative who was living in Eden Street, Saltburn by the Sea in 1881, but my searches in the census find no mention of Saltburn by the Sea. Can any one help?

Looking on findmypast by address, the only Eden Street in Yorkshire is indexed under parish Marske registration district Guisborough but the page states village of Saltburn.

For instance Nos 1 - 7 Eden Street are on RG11/4840/75/15 & subsequent pages go up to No 23 Eden Street.

Saltburn was in North Yorkshire back then (it's now part of Cleveland). Marske is only a mile or so north along the coast from Saltburn - I used to live there when I was a child - and Redcar is only a mile or so north of Marske.

Apologies for possible off-topic  :-*  Saltburn by the Sea is THE most wonderful place.  OH and I visit every year for the Folk Festival in August.  A wonderful old Victorian place with "oodles and oodles" of character.  I believe that until the 1960's there was no pub allowed in Saltburn  :o Amended:  first pub opened in 1982 - Mr Wiki.  And the "lift" from the cliff-top to the pier is just fantastic - the pier being the last remaining pier in Yorkshire (Mr Wiki).  We'll be there again this year - tickets purchased  :o

josey - if you like old-fashioned, then Saltburn is wonderful.  Just ask Mr Wiki what's there  ;)
