If you look on street-view on Google Maps you will see that the older houses are the ones with the chimneys - four per house.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I can see no Eden Street, Saltburn on the 1871 using an address search & the map Stan linked to is 1893.

Frances' parents were still in St Owen Herefordshire in 1881, where they were in 1871 with Frances, so would it make sense that she would marry near there? No luck so far finding a Palmer/Diamond marriage - or even any Frances D*mond marriages at all 1871 - 1881 [just in case Palmer was a second husband!].

ADDED: Who are the witnesses to the 1882 marriage?
Seeking: RC baptism Philip Murray Feb ish 1814 ? nr Chatham Kent.

Just a thought - as Frances' father was a military man, should we be looking for a military marriage between Palmer and Diamond, rather than a England/Wales marriage entry?  It might also account for the migration from Herefordshire, via Yorkshire to Cumbria.

AND, if Frances is living in Saltburn by the Sea, I find it strange that she is marrying in the CARLISLE Registration District in Cumbria?   :-\ :-\  I can see that Robert and Frances Ruddick are living in Carlisle in 1891.

I did ponder that ...there is a marriage of a Julia Matilda Diamond [2 out of her 4 names  ???] in  Bangalore 1881 army marriages p 227 line 9 but  no corresponding Palmer.

ADDED: Also pondered whether she didn't actually marry Mr Palmer.....

Thanks for all those thoughts and ponders. Was it common for people move that far under civilian circumstances.

The witnesses on the MC are (a) Robert Chambers husband of Robert's sister, Sibella and (b) Sarah Ruddick, Robert's daughter by his first marriage. Robert Ruddick was a blacksmith and a widower (46); Frances was a domestic servant and a widow (30). Frances' father is named as William Rufus Diamond and is described as a solicitors clerk. Roberts father was Thomas, a shoemaker, deceased (in 1869).

BumbleB how did you know that Frances' father was in the military? Very correct of course (did you perhaps see my post entitled: William Rufus Diamond).

Interesting about the Bangalore marriage: as a point if interest, who was the groom?

The transcribed army marriage indexes are not cross referenced, so it's not possible to say  :(
