1871 Census Jersey=McFarling/McFarlane

Hi All,

Please can i have a lookup on the 1871 Census on Jersey for alice Laura Sophia McFarling/McFarlane and her family, the info i have is that Alice was born 1861 in Jersey, and i couldn't see her on the 1861 Census.

Any reply will be very much appreciated!

When looking at the actual census image there are a couple of things that are different.

Laura :  where it has J A after her 1st name it looks like it could be S A....she may have swapped some of her names around....some of my rellies have done this.

Fanny :  When looking at the census its clear it says..Absent...On a Voyage.

And when looking at the 1871 census you can see that Fanny is Henry....the father.

Hi Caroline,

Thanks for looking up for me, i recently took over the research on my tree, and the info i have is that Alice born about 1858 in Jersey. Sorry i didn't mention the parents, they are Joseph & Maria. I can't find on any censuses.

Did they stay in Jersey. Im having problems in finding them as well. Do you know the dates of birth for the parents, did they have any other children besides Alice.

Joseph the father changed his name from McFarlane to McFarling, when he married in 1838 to Maria Hatchard.

Hi Gary, i've managed to find the family on the 1861 census......BUT, Alice is'nt on it, BUT, there's another Son on there that you did'nt have...George.

So she either died before 1861 or she was born after that, i'll keep searching.

Whilst looking i did notice that on the 1881 census John was in Cornwall on board a Ship......

Im really sorry but i cant find Alice OR the Parents on the 1871 census.

Found Charles on later census's with his own family.

 Jane as a servant on the 1871 (i think).

Hi Caz,

I hope you can see this message, i've recently received the Marriage of Alice Jane McFarling to Joseph Gray on 05-07-1879 in the Parish of St.Helier, she was 21, and he was 22, so i do find it strange that Alice isn't on any of the censuses.
