Looking for Robert Thomas and Family - Ynysybwl after 1911
« on: Monday 20 April 15 21:00 BST (UK) »
Robert Thomas, wife Mary Elizabeth and family moved from North Wales to Ynysybwl, Glamorgan between 1901 and 1905 and Robert became employed as a Colliery Roadman (below ground).

Their children were:
Eliza Jane Thomas b. 29 Mar 1888, Llanfaelog, Anglesey
Maggie Mary Thomas b. ca. Sep 1890, Llansantffraid Glyn Conway, Denbighshire
Jane Catherine Thomas b. ca. 1893, Llanrug, Caernarvonshire
Gwladys Annie Thomas b. 2 Feb 1896, Caernarvon, Caernarvonshire
Richard William Thomas b. ca. 1898, Caernarvon, Caernarvonshire
John Robert Thomas b. 20 Aug 1900, Newborough, Anglesey
Myfanwy Thomas b. ca. 1905, Ynysybwl, Glamorgan
Sarah Elin Thomas b. ca. 1908, Ynysybwl, Glamorgan

The father Robert Thomas was born 9 Apr 1864, Llanfair-yn-Neubwll, Anglesey and his wife Mary Elizabeth Williams ca. 1867 in Waunfawr, Caernarvonshire.

I believe Gwladys Annie married Walter John Greenslade in 1921 and died in 1976 in Pontypridd.
Can anyone help me find what became of the rest of the family after 1911?

Have you searched freebmd for marriages for the rest of the children and deaths for the parents?

Hi Carole,

Freebmd helped find the marriage and death of Gladys but the other names are rather common, and I don't know where they were living.

For those children who died in and after June quarter 1969, then their exact date of birth is specified.

If you manage to find their birth dates, that should be an enormous help.

Welcome to rootschat, Majesty320g

Do you know what happened to any of your grandmother's siblings?

With exact dates of birth dragonT could also search the 1939 register.

Hi Majesty320g, welcome to Rootschat, thank you for your message.

Robert Thomas was my grandfather's brother, Gwladys Annie my first cousin 1x removed, making us second cousins 1x removed (I think).

Since my original post I have found more information about some of the family from the 1939 register - Robert Thomas (widower) with two of his children (William R & Catherine J) were at 4 Thompson Street, Mountain Ash, Walter & Gwladys Greenslade (plus four closed records - their children?) were at 12 Abernant Terrace, Mountain Ash.

I hope you will be able to share some information about the family. I have been unable to find details for the deaths/burials of Robert and Mary Elizabeth Thomas. I'll also be grateful to find anything further about Gwladys Annie's brothers and sisters.

Hi
12 Abernant Terrace was in Ynysybwl.
Gwladys and Walter had children who names were
Megan
Robert
Mary
Rita
Douglas
Brymor ( my father )
I will speak to my father to see what I can find out. I know that Eliza lived in Penmachno North Wales when she was alive.
Megan lived in Ynysybwl until she died last year. Robert lived in Newport Gwent and died in his fifties. Mary lived in High Wycombe until she died. Rita died last year, but I can't remember where she lived. Douglas lives in Australia and my father Brynmor lives in Bolton Lancashire

Hi
My Dad thinks that Eliza became Eliza Williams and lived in Cwm Penmachno.
Maggie moved to Hopkins town in the Rhondda valley, he can't remember her married name.
Jane and Richard lived at 4 Thompson Street Ynysybwl until they died and never married, as far as he can remember.
Myfanwy moved to Abercynon and married but we don't who, and had a girl.
Sarah became Sarah Short and also lived at 4 Thompson st. They had at least two children Derek and Arwyn, and possibly a daughter.
My Dad also remembers an uncle Llewellyn who is not on the list. Maybe he was John as Dad can't remember an Uncle John
