https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M8N8-LXG (1870 census as Stillman Sperry)

I think there is a Stillman F. Sperry of close to the same age as Charles Stillman Sperry and that Stillman may be the one in this census.  Stillman's marriage & death records are here -

a Mrs M A Sperry with two children (ages marked "2" and "1" - "boy" and "girl" but maybe a mistake?) arrived in Auckland in 1896.  Note in the top left column indicates that she was among the passengers coming from "San Fco" (San Francisco).

https://www.bdmonline.dia.govt.nz/ shows two of the Cullerne boys (1901 and 1902 births - Mary or Margie Ann).  Interestingly if you search on "Sperry" these two same births come up (does this mean out of wedlock? I'm not sure).

I think this is Mary Ann's husband William, remarrying in Canada in 1894! - to another Mary

shows a "William Arthur Wilford, alias Hawley, Howard, etc." convincted for Bigamy in 1902/3

books.google.com has a snippet about him - managed to get this much out:
Quote
William Arthur Wilford was indicted at Birstall on August 14th for bigamy and for obtaining large sums of money by false pretences and with intend to defraud. From July, 1899, to June, 1900, the prisoner was managing a brickworks at Bristol, and from November, 1900, to September, 1901, he was manager to the South Lincolnshire Brickworks at Bourne. Wilford came from Rochester, U.S.A., in 1897 aIU' brought with him plans foT a continuous kiln, stating that he was in this country for a short time only for the purpose of establishing his kiln amongst brick and tile manufacturers. His Lordship, in passing sentence, said that after an experience of thirty years he never remembered any case of bigamy which he considered more serious, or in which there were so many incidents of deliberate crime. Prisoner had traded upon the folly of foolish women, and in the short period of eighteen months he had obtained between 600 and 700.

Is this the same man? Puts him Canada 1894 --> Rochester (NY) USA 1897 --> UK

Maybe Mary went to Canada or New York looking for him - or they travelled together but then split up over there - then she met Mr Sperry.

I have been wondering for a while if Henry Sperry was an alias of William Wilford, but I can't find anyone anywhere that would prove it.
I think Francis's birth certificate would be the way forward. I suspect Mary Ann left England shortly after Francis birth probably chasing William.

Hmm.
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=NZH19150928.2.80&srpos=1&e=--1884-----100--1-byDA---0Sperry+Cullerne--
 - this gives his full name as "Francis Fabian Matterson Sperry".  The "Francis Matterson Sperry" b. 1893 in England is looking closer.

22 January 1893 - supposed date of birth of your Francis
22 April 1894 - "Mann Sperry" (sp?) with "Francis" aged 1 year three months, arrives into Philadelphia.

Could be a badly written "Maria" or similar? The claim to be US citizens could just mean that Mr Sperry was one (no separate naturalisation process for women).  Unfortunately there's no indication of all of where precisely their destination was other than "returning home".

William A. Wilford is listed in the 1896 Rochester, NY city directory as a manager at 109 East Main.  His home was at 45 South Clinton.

His business is mentioned here & there are pictures of him:

He's mentioned as sailing home in 1896 - http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/link.php?action=detail&id=15571
