Morral/Morrel family from Shropshire
« on: Friday 24 April 15 06:12 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have just registered for Rootschat and am searching for information about the Morral/ Grindley families from Wellington, Newport and Shifnal area.
My family is descended from Richard Morrel and Hannah Grindley who married in Wellington in 1837.  Their daughter, Louisa, emigrated to Australia and married Austin Lodwille Tully and were my great grandparents. Austin was born in Borrisokane, Tipperary, 1837, but we know little about him. Parents either Michael Tully and Sarah Ledwill, Lodwille, Ledwith??? or Sarah Tully and Michael Ledwill ???
I would love to find out more about Richard's parents, Samuel Morrell, born about 1781 and his wife, Elizabeth (don't know last name).  I would appreciate any information.

Welcome to Rootchat mischka13.

May I ask how you know Richards Parents were Samuel/Elizabeth?
Do you have a Christening for Richard with those Parents?
Or does the name Samuel as Richards Father come from his 2nd Marriage to Mary Ann BALL 1861?
Do you have the Cert?

Sorry to ask so many questions but it will help with following the Family further back.

There is this Samuel in Wellington, Shropshire in 1841;

1841 Census
Wellingtomn, Shropshire
HO107/907/4/Wellington
Samuel MORRELL, 60, Occp? (hard to read, possibly Coal Miner)
Ann, 55
Adam, 25
Samuel, 20
Only Samuel Jnr is born in County.

Nearby are;
Richard MORRALL, 30, Tea Dealer
Hannah, 20
William, 3
Richard, 2
George, 7mths

Trish :)

Hello
Marriage at All Saint Wellington 4.7.1837
Richard Morrall bach 26 Chalter master Woodhouse so Samuel same
Hannah Grindly 27 Newport d of Thomas gardener
 wit Adam and Elizabeth Morrall

So that seems to confirm the 1841 census you have.
Adam died 1844 buried at All Saints 1.8.1844 age 31 Lawley Common.
This looks like mother Ann buried 27.12.1866 age 77 Horsehay common.
Samuel 30.1.1853 age 69 Lawley common

Hi

There is an entry in the 1851 census with the address Lawley Common where the surname has been transcribed as Mansell but I wonder if it could be Morrell.

Samuel 66 miner b Wellington miner

Ann 63 b Wellington miner's wife

Elizabeth 13 Grandaughter b Shropshire (might be Woodberry but difficult to make out)

1861 has a widow Ann Morrall also at Lawley Common age 70 b Old Office Common Shropshire

William
Dent (Haltwhistle and Sacriston), Bell and Jetson (Haltwhistle), Postle, Ward, Longstaff, Purvis, Manners, Parnaby and Hardy (Co. Durham), Kennedy and McRobert (Banffshire), Reid(Bathgate), Watson (Wemyss), Graham (Libberton), Sandilands (Carmichael), Munro (Dingwall)

Thanks for all responses.  Ciderdrinker, I think you found the right information on the marriage of Richard Morral and Hannah Grindley. In information I have Richard seems to have been a Charter Master and later a Grocer - not sure if it is the same person but I thought so.
Father Samuel seems to have been a coal miner. My copies of the census information seem to have faded so I will need to spend some time checking the information. Very grateful for all the help.

Trish, I have a copy of a Marriage Certificate for Richard Morrall and Hannah Grindley, July 1837, in the Parish of Wellington.  The fathers are listed as Samuel Morrall and Thomas Grindley with Adam and Elizabeth Morrall as witnesses. (I assume these are Richard's brother and sister).
