How can you show adoption on an Ancestry tree?
« on: Friday 24 April 15 13:05 BST (UK) »
I've just reminded myself of a problem I gave up on some time back. On one branch a girl child is listed as "adopted" in a census, and later is married from the family's home address, but her mother is not a family member, and there was no father listed on her birth certificate. There may be a genetic family connection, I suspect, as she later uses some family names when naming her own children. I ended up putting her in as a family member, but can't see an easy way to show that her natural mother was her mother, without making a hole in the tree. I could just "float" her as a sep. entry, but that seems to devalue her.... any ideas?

When you look at a person's profile, there is an option to "Add a Fact".
One of the possibilities, in the drop-down menu, is adoption! ;D

Ah, thank you. I'd annotated the profile, but'd not found a clear way to show her natural mother as her mother, without totally detaching the lass from the family tree that by upbringing she seemed to belong in, if not parentage. I'll give that a go.
