How can I contact a thread poster?
« on: Sunday 26 April 15 18:55 BST (UK) »
Hello - I am a newby, just joined as I spotted my Grandfathers name via a general 'google' type search. The entry is relevant to my family but the entry was placed nearly 2yrs ago and I doubt the enquirer will still be checking. How do I bring my update to the attention of the enquirer? (I understand there is a minimum number of posts required to be able to use the PM system.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat...There is a search button on the top of the board...type your relatives name in there and see if it comes up. I think you have to have posted 2 messages before you can send a PM.

Find the thread (via search, above) and post a reply on it!

The people who contributed should get a message/email to say you have contributed.

Linksdale, if you click on the user name it'll tell you when the person was last online, it'll give you a good idea as to whether they're still showing an interest.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.  :)

This same thing has happened to me. In general, is it advisable to contact people who are searching for information about your deceased relatives? Is privacy protected when using the PM system to do so? And, what are most people doing with the information (in this case, the poster's words implied that she or he is not a relative)?
