James Albert was, I believe, the younger brother of my paternal grandfather John Frederick Thomas
(1865 -1941)
Although it is not definitely clear from he census records I believe him to be the son of Edmondson Thomas (1838 - c.1875) and Ann(1844 -1908,nee Taylor) b. Newtown, Wales.
In 1871 he is living in the household of his grandfather John and described as "grandson"
In 1881 he is described as "errand boy"
In 1891 he is resident in Northowram, Yorks, married to Martha(nee Robinson?) and is recorded as a "painter and paperhanger"
By 1901 I believe the same James Albert Thomas, still recorded as "house painter" to be living in Ecclesfield but married to an entirely different woman.
Despite a lot of searching Ican find no record of Martha post 1891(apart from a very vague
indication from a migrant ship passenger list) Any info about her will be gratefully received.
Info on the second wife? If Martha had gone off perhaps he felt "free" to enter a fresh marriage.
Does anyone know why he left Halifax for the Sheffield area
