Marriage of John Taylor and Ann Rodgers
« on: Tuesday 28 April 15 00:44 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am searching for the parents of John Taylor, born in Manchester around 1871-1874.  The earliest record I have been able to locate is that of his 1892 marriage in Manchester to Mary Ann Hill, on which his father's name was recorded as John Taylor, quarry man (deceased).  His death certificate confirms that his father's name was John Taylor, and lists his mother's maiden name as Ann Rodgers, both born in England.  I have not been able to find any record of a marriage either between John Taylor and Ann Rodgers, or between John Taylor and a widow named Ann with a father named Rodgers.  Does anyone see anything that I'm missing?  Any help would be much appreciated!

Note:  I posted a similar topic last year, looking for John Taylor, quarryman, and his wife, but at the time I didn't have the name of Ann Rogers, and I think I was looking at the wrong family.  That thread is here, in case it is of any help:    http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=698406.0

  Thank you!

Thank you- I hadn't seen that.  I'm having trouble verifying, but will keep trying.  It's the only possibility right now.  Thanks again!

No luck.  John Taylor in 1868 Sheffield married either Sarah Woodhall or Ellen Unwin.  The bit about Ann Rogers was a user-submitted comment about Ann Rodgers marrying Connor Pashley.   :(

Have you found him on 1881 census? To see if he had older siblings or was the eldest, to see if his dad had died by then, maybe his mum remarried, (maybe to a Rodgers?) And generally to find out more about the family to help find out when his parents may have married.
Have you found a birth for him and got the birth cert? That would confirm his parents names and mums maiden name. I see that your year of birth for him is rather flexible, and John Taylor isnt exactly an unusual name though!

Thanks, Rolnora- I haven't checked that one.  I'm not sure what I can do besides order the certificate, but it might be worth it, without much else to go on.

Lizdb- No, unfortunately John Taylor is such a common name that I can't pinpoint him on a birth record, or the 1881 census.  Having a father also named John doesn't narrow the field much.  There are tons of possibilities, but none seem to quite fit with what little information I have.
