Did actually find a distant relative a while ago. Not on Rootschat, sorry to say, but on a Family History Society site. Had a brief exchange with him, but he didn't seem very interested in helping each other out. A bit strange for an amateur genea.. I thought!! Just goes to show that the nicest people are on here. We all like to help each other. :)

Yep  I know just how you feel.

No one else I've ever found after the surname RAPKIN ( my grans mum).

I have a friend with Urling ancestors too.

At least if you find one you know they're yours, trouble is they are nearly always misspelt.Cos no one's ever heard if before.

Oh well could be worse- after my mates Urling lot,his mum was a BROWN   ::)

But aren't mis-spellings sometimes great? Someone found a SOURBEERS for me! Gave us both a giggle.

Hiya Carol,

You may not be so alone  :)

Have you googled "Sourbutts"?

How many of the rootsweb posts are yours? Or the Ancestry message boards?

That's how I find fellow researchers.  It's worth emailing them and asking - y'just never know.

I've emailed a few people and often done well, obviously the older the post the less likely a reply.  But you just never know  ;D

Hi Pam
Yes I did try that, quite a while ago. That was how I came across the chappy who wasn't very interested in the end. Have chased up a few on Genes Reunited , but most folk on there are only interested in recent history.it seems. Because I am the only child of a Sourbutts only child, any links are further back.

Thanks for the advice all the same- will have another go soon.Just at present trying to enjoy the nice weather and spend some time in the garden.Problem with this hobby is it's so addictive!I could happily spend all my waking hours researching.
Glad you like the name- It was the bane of my life before I married!!! ::)

I'm also feeling like Billy No-mates with my Alcocks, Brasses, Chrystals, Etheringtons, Gants, Hillarys, Macfalls, Nipes and Surretts ...  :)

Have made contact with people researching a lot of these lines on other boards, but just for the moment I'm the only one on the SIT looking for these families.

I'm sure this situation will change as news of Rootschat's friendliness and helpfulness continues to spread!
