I am searching for descendants of the above named people. My Grt. grandfather was Thomas Caffry born in 1836 in County Louth.  He left Co. Louth aboard the ship "City of Mobile" in 1857 arriving in New York. The next record I have of him is in 1868 in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.
I have a letter from a Parish Priest, Patrick McCulla dated 1874 confirming Thomas's baptism in 1836.  The return address says "Whitrath Cottage, Dromiskin, Castlebellingham, Co. Louth", and is signed by the Parish Priest.
It lists his parents as Patrick Caffry and Anne Craven.
Any leads will be greatly appreciated as I hope to be in Ireland in late August early Sept.

Unfortunately there are no Caffreys (or variants) living in Dromiskin townland in 1901 or 1911 census.

There are a few living in nearby townlands in 1901- just search for caff* (surname) in Dromiskin (D.E.D.)- but not a Patrick or Anne.

There information you are looking for is well before the start of civil registration in Ireland. Registration of deaths started in 1864 and if you found a Patrick of Anne Caffrey in the indexes there's no way to tell if these are your ancestors. Even if you were to purchase the death certificate of a likely candidate it probably wouldn't prove it's the right person.

Have a look at this topic about tracing Irish ancestors-
