Ellen McDonnell
« on: Wednesday 29 April 15 20:11 BST (UK) »
After looking for Ellen and getting nothing I'd given up a bit but today I was looking at outward passenger lists an came across a few of
Ellen McDonnell going to either Boston or New York from Queenstown Ireland .
They all give the correct year of birth 1885 she ages from 19 to 27, why would a young girl go back an forward it must have been expensive.
If it is her or at least one is is this why I couldn't trace her with her mum and brothers?
Mostly they state her occ as Spinster she is also a 'winder' 'waitress' or domestic.
The year ranges are from
1904
1905
1910
1912
I didn't have time to go through all but her birth date is on these.
How can I now trace her, did she marry here or America ?

When you say "her birth date is on these" do you mean an exact date of birth or just the year/approx. year she was born?

It's unlikely that all those records are for the same Ellen McDonnell (unless she was working on the Atlantic run- she would be listed as crew with an occupation such as stewardess or such).

Have you checked both pages of the passenger manaifest for each of these records? one section asks for contact in America and another asks for name and address of nearest relative in U.K. for U.K citizens going to America.

Where was your Ellen born?  I agree that there is likely more than one Ellen McDonnell born in that time frame.

The incoming New York lists should be able to be viewed at https://www.libertyellisfoundation.org/  Registration is free.  Be sure to check if there's a second page, as there can be information about the relatives from their home country.

Ellen McDonnell, age 20, travelling with Mary Heally- both names crossed out

8 Apr.1905 "Cedric" arrived New York
