Hi,
Are you able to provide the parent names for George and Mary please?.
I think you will find that it is the Immigration records that are held at Canberra, not that the family migrated to Canberra.

Hi blootoon17

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Take care when discussing names as I think some may be too recent. RC is not suitable for discussing living people (just a position that the site has always maintained to protect people's identity and privacy). Not sure if the children of George and Mary that you mention may still be alive...

The marriage of George and Mary looks to have taken place in 1953: 1st Qrt 1953 in Newark, Nottinghamshire, George Murray and Mary Sleight. Refs. Vol. 3c pg. 650.

If George and Mary are deceased, their death certs may give additional details. English marriage certs will only show fathers' names.

I have information for George Murray who was my uncle but not for his wife. His fathers name was James Murray born 28th october 1884 at Keithhall in Aberdeenshire-died 1st July 1961 registered address Tempion cottage Cruden Bay -Aberdeenshire. This info is part of the family tree i am trying to build and comes from birth and death certificates found on scotlands people. Unfortunately i cannot read the actual address in Keithhall. Georges mother was born Mary Masson on 5th August 1895 at Millbrex-Fyvie Aberdeenshire died 19th March 1961 in Aberdeen. I am not sure if George and Marys family are still alive- nobody has heard from them for a long time. Really appreciate your help on this. Do you know of any search site that i can use to check for them in Australia that won't go against site rules? Thanks again - Mary

Hi Mary

This is the Australian Board here on RC www.rootschat.com/forum/australia/

I am sure people will try to help further with your searches there in Austrialia  :)

What year was George Murray born in? It may be that Mary Sleight was English born rather than Scottish. I am guessing you haven't viewed/ordered the English marriage cert from 1953?

I am not sure which year he was born in. His wife was definately english.I have not been able to access the birth certificate yet - having a problem accessing the site but i will keep trying. As they were married in Newark, Nottingham i assume that was her home town. They met while George was stationed in England with the army. They lived in Aberdeen when they moved back north till they emigrated. I will try for marriage certificate again - Thanks Mary

Mary, not sure that Mary Sleight was born in Nottinghamshire. Only one birth with that name and this was in 1936, too late you would think for a 1953 marriage. Have a look on FreeCen for birth possibilities http://www.freebmd.org.uk/search for Mary Sleight.

Mary Masson looks to have married James Murray young, when she was c. 18? Likely marriage for them showing in 1913. So George born after this year.

She was 18.-they married on 7th november 1913 at Tarves in Aberdeenshire. George was one of 9 children one of whom died when she was about 5. I am not sure yet which order the children came in so am unsure of his birth year. have not been able to access his marriage certificate yet but will try again to-morrow. Would you mind if i come back to you when i find it . In the meantime i will try the link you sent to check australian records for family. Thank you so much for all this help-really is appreciated.  Mary
