Signhing out of gmail on Android
« on: Sunday 03 May 15 20:51 BST (UK) »
Hi :)

Has anyone else had this problem, and especially does anyone know how to solve it?

I managed to get into my gmail but I don't want to leave it signed in on my Android phone and I can't find a way of signing out.

Can anyone help?

Best wishes

Emms :)

Out of curiosity I looked in the help section of my gmail account (go to menu & the help is right near the bottom) on my phone. It says
"Sign out (Android)
There's no option to sign out of the Gmail app for Android without removing your entire account from your phone or tablet........"
It lists options such as 'I want to protect my email' which might be what you want.

Hope that helps.

I don't use Gmail on my Android device, but I've found the Help article referred to. This seems to suggest setting a password for the whole device, but I think there's a less drastic alternative.

This is an App Lock app which operates only on the apps you choose. I use one called Smart AppLock 2, but there are lots of others, and you can choose between ones which use passwords, number codes or swipe patterns. The one I have lets you choose a suitable period to unlock an app for, so that you don't have to sign in repeatedly or for too long. I use it for protecting sensitive things like my mail app and Google Play account, but it means that for non-sensitive things like games and playing music I can just pick up the device and use it without having to sign in.
