George Smyth Robinson born in Paris in 1793
« on: Thursday 07 May 15 14:58 BST (UK) »
He married my relation Elizabeth Ridout (1791- 1855) in Paris where two of their daughters were born. They returned to England where three more daughters were born

What were they doing there in the reign of terror?  Was George's father working there .Elizabeth  came from a very respectable  family in Kent.

I am also having trouble finding George in any censuses,I don't know  what he did  and when he died.
Any help please.

Did George die before 1841 Census?
Do you have a Childs M/C which would have his Occp?

Trish :)

EDIT;
ROSA LOUISA Robinson marries Mark AMOS, 4 Jan 1852, St John the Evangelist, Lambeth
Father George Smith Robinson, Gentleman
Not much help!

When Helene marries William Evans 1843 Herne, Kent her Father is just George (F/S.)

1851 we have;
William F Evans   37
Heline Evans 31
William Thomas Evan 7
James Evan 5
Jane Evans 3
Frederick Evans    1
Caroline Ricout  48
Georgiana Robinson 21

Cat fin Georgiana/Rosa Louisa/Anna/Helene in 1841 though. Or Rosa 1851.

He was alive circa 1844 with an address in King William Street, London, and property in Cheshire

EDIT though I suppose that could just be someone with a similar name!

Surely the original baptism records for the kids (post, what is it, 1813?) would list occupation/address - or do they just say "gentleman" as well? At least a confirmed address would help.

Also, what information says that he was born Paris in 1793 specifically?  Do you have the marriage details?

I was just reading the PCC will of Thomas Ridout, surgeon and apothecary of Herne, who died in 1843. The will was written in 1834 1827 and speaks of his daughter Elizabeth as a "feme sole" and unmarried, and sets out what should happen if she should have lawfully begotten children.

EDIT there is an 1834 codicil which cuts Elizabeth Robinson out of his will altogether as she had been amply provided for during his lifetime

Kentish Gazette, 10 January 1843:

"Jan. 4, at Herne, by the Rev. George May, William F. Evans. Esq. to Helene, eldest daughter of G. S. Robinson, gent., and grand daughter of T Ridout, esq. late surgeon, of Herne."

On the marriage register Helene's residence is Herne, father George Robinson, gentleman.
