I am looking for my Father Relatives,His Name was Thomas P Montague he was born in Woolwich (25 High Street from what I can find) London 1931 to James J Montague born 1885 (His Father) and Amelia J Montague Nee Channings born 1888/9 (His Mother). They married in 1905.
He was last son in line to Thirteen Children. I believe I have found all the sibling plus more?
If anyone has any knowledge I would be grateful.

My Father moved to Scotland because of health issues when he was 13 years old. He moved in with his sister Sissy and her Husband Tom and had a sister Molly both living at that time in Fife Scotland. The relatives that I knew of in Scotland are now deceased, so I have hit a wall up here re help with names etc:

Regards to all

Hi Pauline

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

According to www.freebmd.org.uk Amelia's maiden surname was Channing or Channings, you can use freebmd to find the children born after 1911. You'll need the 1911 census to find those born before 1911.

You can use freebmd to see if any of the children married and then had children of their own.

I've found several of them marrying in Woolwich registration district.

I'm sorry, but we have a 'no living people' policy here at Rootschat so any cousins you may have might fall into that category so they can't be named here.

Have a look at this topic for more hints and tips

If you don't have a subscription to Ancestry, check out your local library to see if they have free access in the library.

I found James & Amelia in the electoral registers with some of their children which can be found at Ancestry.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dawn,
Many thanks for your welcome. I am new to this and have found quite a few if not all of his sibling on Findmypast. I have now found out My Aunt Sissy was called Rose, and I have fond memories of her as she lived near us. I am in Scotland and most of my Fathers family resided in Woolwich / Kent area. I am unsure of any living cousins but I hope there will be some somewhere. I might try ancestry once I get my head round the trawling

Thanks for the info you gave I`m sure I will use it

Regards

Pauline

Hi Pauline

Keep going with FindMyPast as you have a subscription.

Even though I've got subscriptions, I tend to find freebmd a little easier to use for birth mariage and death searches.

Hi Dawn,

He had two sisters up here in Fife. I know them as Aunt Sissy, I believe this to be Rose Montague born 1909 she went on the Marry Thomas Patrick McCormack in Woolwich I think. They had four sons, they are all deceased now.  Also my Aunt Molly ( she stayed in Rosyth by Dunfermline) I`m trying to work out her first name. She was married with one child a Daughter. I never met her husband that I can recall.

I had an Aunt Ginny Who lived in Kent she was a formidable character I am lead to believe, I think this may be Georgina born 1923! They all had their names shortened :-)

Years ago I put a question on a board (can`t find it now) asking if anyone knew of the family. One person from Australia asked me If I had any more info as he thought his father was one of the children.

Thanks
Pauline

Molly is often a nickname for Mary although I've also seen it used for Margaret.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Could this be Georgina's marriage?

Marriages Dec 1942

Montague    Georgina E    Randell
Randell    Sidney             Montague
Woolwich    1d   1774

If so, there are 6 probable births to this couple between 1944 and 1961 all in Woowich. They are all likely to be still alive. You can find their names by using Freebmd.
