George Gummow ? St Austell or St Stephen in Brannel
« on: Sunday 10 May 15 02:56 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find George Gummow ( ? spelling variations) in 1851 thought to be a pauper aged 68 lodging with Joseph Hore also a pauper. This is likely to have been SSiB..

Nancy Gummow died Dec Qtr 1856 St Austell 5c 95 according to FreeBMDs
He may have died 5 Dec 1853 of dropsy. ( St Austell Workhouse )

Gummow is thought to have married my Ann/Nancy Harry b1802 at St Stephen in Brannel 5 Aug 1822.
The 1851 Census at Terras St Stephen in Brannel has Nancy living with her children  as head of the house. No mention of her husband.

I would appreciate confirmation of his location 1851 and if possible his birth/baptism details.

With thanks.
Wyatt and Wood of Glossop, Derbyshire. Longstaff of Bishop Auckland,Durham. Harry of St Austell and St Kew,Cornwall. Charters of County Antrim.Knight of Warwickshire.Hendy of Ballyedmonduff.

There is a William - do you definitely mean George?

Apologies, but just wanted to check.

This is the wrong 1851, as she is not head of house but living with a son and family, and is described as a widow?

That Census shows his wife Ann/Nanct with son Richard , his wife Mary  ,their son Thomas and a lodger.
George Gummow must be lodging elsewhere. Surname variation possible.
He died St Austell Workhouse 5 Dec 1853. Apparently he was 68 in 1851 equating to a birth year of C1783.

Thanks

That census claims that she is widowed.

Have you got the family in 1841?

Thomas is shown as 13 - if correct age, he cannot be the son of Richard who is 26.

Is it 1841 where she is head of house, with no husband?

I thought 1841 at Hallevick ? Ann 40, George Trethewy 55 and Thomas Gommow 4.
Adult ages rounded.
Her mother nee Trethewy may explain George Trethewy.
Son Richard bpt 1823 ? when born.
His wife Mary ( Cocks )
Assumed Thomas likely their son.

We need 1851 Census Terras for George Gummow where he is a lodger.

Considering son Thomas might be fathered by George Trethewy.

In 1851 census George Trethewy is lodging with Joseph Hoar (head) in St Stephen in Brannel. Both are paupers.

George Trethewy was born in Devonport, and is aged about 68, widowed.
