Jone's Gareg Lwyd Rhoscolyn
« on: Tuesday 12 May 15 22:54 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know anything about the Jones Family who farmed at Gareg Lwyd Rhoscolyn (Previously of Cnwc Melin Rhoscolyn) in the 1840's-7o's.William and Elizabeth Jones had four children the third of which was my Great Grandfather also William Jones born in 1855  He had an older brother called John Jones who i know nothing about, also born in Gareg Lwyd 1853. The census documents say that there were two John Jones's born in Rhoscolyn 1n 1853, one went on to farm at Cerrig Yr Adar Rhoscolyn, the other went to live in Baker St Holyhead, if anyone knows anything about this John Jones or any thing about the Jones's of Gareg Lwyd please get in touch.   DavE Hughes.

Hi Dave,

I can find the 1851 census for Garreglwyd, Rhoscolyn - I expect you have it too - it shows:

William Jones, Head, 30, Farmer of 30 acres employing 1 lad, b. Rhoscolyn
Elizabeth Jones, Wife, 25, b. Cerrigceinwen
Margaret Jones, Daur., 1 month, b. Rhoscolyn
Anne Jones, Mother (Widow), 68, b. Llanfairpwll
Owen Williams, Serv, 16, farm lab, b. Llanddyfnan
Cathrine Williams, Lodger, 77, Pauper, b. Newborough

It seems that both William Jones and his mother Anne died at Garreglwyd before the 1861 census, the two deaths were registered as follows:
William Jones, 6 Nov 1859 at Garreglwyd, Rhoscolyn, age 40, agricultural labourer. Informant Owen Owens Cerrig moelion, Rhoscolyn.
Anne Jones, 15 Apr 1860 at Garreglwyd, Rhoscolyn, age 78, widow of Tailor William Jones. Informant Robert Owen, Cefn y Borth, Rhoscolyn.

Unfortunately a section of the 1861 census for Rhoscolyn is missing and I suspect Garreglwyd is in this missing section. (see http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=C3102405)

By 1871 there is a different family at Garreglwyd - Thomas Jones, Oyster dredger, 37, b. Bodedern; wife Elizabeth, 46, b. Heneglwys and 8 children ranging from 2 to 18.

Do you have names and approx. years of birth of any of the other children of William and Elizabeth Jones?

Hello, you are correct that a large section of the 1861 census of Roslyn is missing as i checked with Anglesey archives some time ago.The William Jones who died at the age of forty was my Great Great Grandfather. He and his wife Elizabeth had four children the oldest Margaret born in 1851 then John born in 1853, William(my Great Grandfather) 1855 and David born in 1858.After the Death of her husband  Elizabeth Married Thomas Jones and she another six children, they started the family at Gareg Lwyd which changed hands in 1881.Elizabeth and Thomas went to farm at a place called Fadog On the Bodior estate Roslyn, i think John and David lived there with them for a time that''s why it my look as though they had eight children. My Great Grandfather got married in 1880 and opened a grocers shop in Holyhead.I can trace the children Margaret and David up to the present day but after Fadog i know nothing of John. Thanks for getting in touch. DavE Hughes.

The father of my grandfather David John Jones was David Jones born at Roshcolyn in 1858 married with Margaret and living 11 Pump Street Holyhead.
I want to know if he is the son of William and Elizabeth Jones, you're looking for.
My mother Margareth Jones from Holyhead married my father, Cornelis Tol from The Netherlands, and went To Holland after the War.
I'm living in Heerlen, The Netherlands.

Hello Dave, thanks for your reaction.
I was hoping that David was the son of William and Elizabeth.
I'm looking for several years for his parents and ask even the church in Rhoscolyn.
The great grandson you know is probebly my cousin Fred.
I think to start a new topic to find the parents of David.

Hello again Jacob, looking at the first email i sent you i see i did not express myself very well, the David Jones you are talking about was the youngest son of William and Elizabeth Jones of Garreg Lwyd Rhoscolyn, yes you are on the right track and i know Fred or big Fred as he is known to everyone in Holyhead.William Jones died in his early forty's with three sons and one daughter your David been the youngest. His wife Elizabeth remarried a Thomas Jones and went on to have another six children, they moved from Garreg Lwyd in about 1881 and went on to farm a place called Fadog a mile or so down the road which is on the Bodior Estate. I would like to know how you are getting on with your research or can help in anyway please get in touch. All the best David Hughes.
