Searching for Tatomir ancestors from the Ukraine
« on: Wednesday 13 May 15 15:31 BST (UK) »
I've been at my search now for about a month, and it has been a fascinating journey so far. I have located my great-great grandparents - John (Johann) Tatomir and Rose Tatomir both born in the late 1800's.  Birthplace Iwankoutz, Bukovina Ukraine.

I have been trying to track their journeys and have had an easier go of it with John.  They also travelled with three small children.

What I really need help with is the passage of Rose (Frozina on document) Tatomir [/b]who left on July 1st 1922, and landed in Quebec, Canada.

From other border crossings I have learned that she came on a ship called the Monatosa, but am unable to find that ship at all for that time period. It could be a spelling error?

Their records would be for Ocean Arrivals Form 30A

There are also records for their children who somehow ended up going to St. John's New Brunswick.
Their names are Omsijor,  Eugene, and Agnesie  Tatomir.  If anyone can help me their records also I would be so greatful!!

Thank you for your time, and so glad I came across this site today!

Thank you for your response.

Yes this is a border crossing that she made with her husband /daughter in law from Canada to Michigan to visit a friend in 1931. I have already been able to view this document.

I am trying to get to the record of her actual immigration/ship passage to Canada where she entered into the Quebec port - July 1922.  Also that of her three children.  I am unable to view Canadian records, or at least I haven't found a way to as of yet.

They havnt posted in years and did a total of 2 posts so I'm not sure if they will ever check if there is a response to their years old post. Do you or would anyone on this site have any idea about anyway I could do some research so I can get in contact with the original poster? I have alot of information to share with them but am not sure if they will see this years later response. Anyone out there who can help me with this would be appreciated. Thanks

Thank you for the response is appreciated.
If anyone has any other information on how to get in contact with original Tatomir poster please let me know.

I share same family and am new to genealogy. If anyone out there can help me find information about Tatomir and connected family between period of 1700-1920 that would really help me out In my search.

I seem to find some missing years and time inbetween rest of family coming with Johann/John Tatomir. Is there any way to know if he was either interned in the camps in Canada or registered as a enemy alien citizen in Canada during WW1? Or if or when he served in ww1 as well? I think some Ukrainians did do both during that period, govt records are mostly erased on the camps  so it makes it tough to find out.

I also see records of other people names Tatomir in that region who stayed after Johann left and were mistreated/killed by Nazis and USSR as Jews it seems possibly.

Since I'm newer to this if anyone could help me find this information would be appreciated.

Is there any Jewish connections with the Tatomir or connected family? Since I see other people names Tatomir in that area have files in the concentration camps as Jews it makes it hard to know for sure as my family seemed to be religiously Christian, anyone who knows any information about this would be appreciated.

How would I find out the address of the Tatomir home in Ukraine itself? I'm sure that their home address changed different languages I'm guessing so is probably tough to know what new number and street name would be. Does anyone know how I would find out what their home address would be or any other Tatomir and connected family related info when they were in Canada between 1913-1921 as well as before that when they were in Ukraine?

I'm new to this so whatever help or information people can give me at all would be appreciated.
