Computer freezes
« on: Friday 15 May 15 09:13 BST (UK) »
Hi!
Can anyone help at all? For well over a month my computer freezes when I try to use Familysearch website? It also does this when I am trying to view other non family related websites also?
I use Google as a search engine, and my computer has Windows Defender and also McAfee Security running so I don't know what the problem is?

If anyone can suggest anything (in computer terms I can understand!) I would be most grateful! :)

Is it your computer freezing & your only option is to restart, or is it the browser you are using.

Hi!
Thanks for replying! All I know is that when I click onto Familysearch.org it starts ok and then my computer just freezes (the cursor wont move at all) and it just stays like that. It also happens with other websites (even one of the local paper!), and in the end I have to switch the computer off and then turn it back on again. Have Windows defender which scans and protects the computer and also McAfee security. Apart from that computer works ok! I use Google as a search engine (not google chrome). :)

Could it be Windows Defender and McAfee are fighting against each other?
[Not recommended to have two active virus checkers on same machine]

I have the same problem if it makes you feel any better - and also have the same combination of programs.

I've always had problems with certain newspapers but the Familysearch problem is very recent - probably no more than 3-weeks - although if I leave it alone it does eventually come back to life after a minute or so.

I have this issue here. Hangs then starts again a minute or so later. Mainly FS but every now and then on some others.

I figure its my connection. The installer said my wires were dodgy and living in Oz I think we are still on rotary  ::)

I don't have the combination of virus checkers. Avast (free) is my main one and I run spybot and CC Cleaner ( both free) as well

I agree that using 2 antivirus programs can cause problems.

Also, have you tried using a different browser? FamilySearch opens and responds quickly in Firefox on my PC at the moment.
