Tracing Reference Numbers - V/13/252 and V/13/253 R.E. Bastien
« on: Thursday 21 May 15 00:31 BST (UK) »
I have just come across some notes I made in 2010 when I was trying to trace my grandfather, R.E. Bastien (or variations). The numbers are V/13/252 and V/13/253 and here is a copy of my notes.

"I found R.E Bastein (note spelling) General Signaller in Upper Burma from 1900-1904 and then moving to Madras in 1905-6. He had a ‘good grade’ and was appointed to the Telegraph Dept. on April 15, 1891. His salary rose from 105 rupees to 152 rupees during the six year period.

Today I checked V/13/250 where he appears from April 1892 under Local Signallers.
In 1892 he was in Nagpur. Had ‘average grade’ and was earning 27 rupees. In 1894 his salary was 32 rupees and in 1895 he had moved to the Punjab at a salary of 52 rupees."

My problem is I can't remember  where I got these reference numbers from, i.e. V/13/252 and V/13/253.  - can anyone here help?  I am back at square one with my maternal grandparents.

Woo!  Finally found it.  The refs are for the UK National Archives!  See the reference below which is a copy of data from the National Archives site on www.nationalarchives.gov.uk which sort of matches your reference but definitely is the right subject.
