Elizabeth Carson Drain/ Brown or Mayneilly
« on: Monday 25 May 15 15:32 BST (UK) »
My Grandmother Elizabeth Carson Drain born Scotland 1880 had many relations who emigrated abroad.
One being her sister Agnes Smith Drain born 1885 Dalbeattie Scotland died 8 Oct 1953 Boksburg Gauteng South Africa burial Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Gauteng who married Percy Carson 1908 Manchester England.  Percy Carson born 1888 Manchester died 4 sep 1956 address 219 Snyman Road, Gauteng.

Percy Carson was a Carpenter in the Military at Poteckefstroom 1915.  Shortly afterwards Agnes and children emigrated to join him, where they remained until their deaths.

All I knew about Grandma Elizabeth was she died before I was born in 1952.  In 1944 her then husband James Mayneilly died so I assume she travelled after 1944-1952.
She had been visiting relatives and died either whilst there,or on journey to see them.
Have checked NARS, researcher found wills for Agnes & Percy but nothing on her.
If she had died on board ship surely there would be a record somewhere?
There is no death listed in Scotland or England for her either.

Can anyone check Cemetery where sister Agnes Carson is buried? There may be mention of Elizabeth there.  Otherwise can anyone point me in the right direction to find her please.

Many Thanks Lyn

Hello Lyn and welcome to Rootschat :)

Have you checked to see if she remarried? Unlikely she travelled during the war so from 1946 to 1952
but if remarried she would have another surname.

Thank you for such a quick response.

The Mayneilly name was her last marriage to my knowledge.
As you can imagine it probably will have many variations, which makes it even more difficult.
The only hope is searching all names i.e Drain maiden name, Brown and Mayneilly her married names, she always used the middle name of Carson or capital C though.  lyn
