Luce-Williams Jersey island
« on: Tuesday 26 May 15 06:01 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the marriage of Melvina/Malvina Mary Luce, daughter of Capt James Luce, harbour master St Martin. Melvina was born on 10th July 1820 at St Helier. She married William Henry Williams, ship's purser, between 1841 and 1848 but more likely in the latter part of this period (first child was born 28th November 1848). Although they later moved to London, I believe they were probably married in Jersey as I can find no record of a marriage in the UK BMD index. I would like to buy a copy of the marriage record (if there is one) but have no index entry etc and I'm not sure where to start looking.

Any help would be most appreciated   :)- Bottlebrush Australia

Delicia Elizabeth, 27th April 1814, St Helier
James Elie, 7th July 1816, St Martin
Frederic Mauger, 10th August 1817, St Martin
George Henry, 12th May 1822  St Martin

When it comes to obtaining Jersey marriage certificates you have 2 options.

1) Contact the Registry Office and they will produce a handwritten copy of the original, this will cost you £20. They only accept sterling payments and do not have PayPal facilities.
2) Contact the Jersey Archive and they can send you a photocopy of the certificate. This will cost in the region of £7 .50 including postage. You would have to sign a copyright form which can be found at http://www.jerseyheritage.org/places-to-visit/jersey-archive in the Research section.

I will be at the Archive this afternoon and will see if I can find the marriage. If it took place in St Martin there should be a transcription as this register has been transcribed beyond 1842.

Sorry - there was nothing in St Martin. I'll try the other parishes next time.
