Where Was This Picture Taken?
« on: Tuesday 26 May 15 17:44 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me where this picture was taken?  I know for sure that it was taken in Yorkshire and a relative tells me that it was taken at least 35 years ago.

Thee are quite a few abbey ruins in Yorkshire - I live opposite one myself (Kirkstall Abbey on the outskirts of Leeds). But I think your picture was taken at Riveaux Abbey in N Yorks. Will keep checking and if I find anything to back this up (matching formation/ skyline etc) I will post again.

That was the first one that came to my mind as well, but I cant find any photos taken in the same place.

I'll have a guess at "Byland Abbey".

Byland looks good to me, with that wooded hill behind.

I also thought immediately of Byland - but I can't pin down the exact spot  ::)

Nor can I. I've been looking at photos from different angles but I can't make it fit. It has the feel of Byland though, rather than one of the bigger abbeys.

View from Byland Abbey.

I can almost convince myself I can see the same cherry tree (35 years older and bigger, of course,)
