Body family of Penrhiwceiber
« on: Thursday 28 May 15 20:27 BST (UK) »
Ann Body was born in 1883 in St Keyne, Cornwall but lived in Penrhiwceiber, Glamorgan.  Her parents were James and Lavinia Body. Ann had three siblings Maud born 1891, James 1887/8 and Laura 1893.  Ann married Llewellyn Williams and had three children, Ruth, William and Llewellyn.
Llewellyn senior died of pneumonia in 1905 while Ann was pregnant with Llewellyn junior.  I have been told that Ann hanged herself at a school in Penrhiwceiber in 1910 but I have not been able to substantiate this.  I have been trying to find what happened to the three children, Ruth, William and Llewellyn junior (who was my uncle). I cannot find the family on the 1911 census and have not been able to find any records for orphanages where they may have been sent.  Any advice would be most appreciated.

Ann married Llewellyn Williams and had three children, Ruth, William and Llewellyn.

The marriage was in 1902 and she is shown as Annie Body on the freebmd entry

Quote
Llewellyn senior died of pneumonia in 1905

It was 1907 as per freebmd.  No Llewellyn Williams births in Pontypridd from 1907 but there are 2 before - 1903 and 1904

The orphanage would have depended on age

Babies were on J ward in the Graig in Pontypridd (I believe the offical name was the central homes)
up to 9 I believe (I may be off on the age limit) were Maesycoed Childrens Home
The older ones were at Church Village Children's Home

Thank you both for the information

Can you tell me where I can found the records for the children's homes mentioned. As I live in the Midlands accessing them in person will be difficult so any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Glamorgan Archives
These may be interesting to you http://www.childrenscottagehomes.org.uk/pontypridd_cottage_homes.html
http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Pontypridd/

I got the ages wrong

Apparently the archives have
Cottage Homes: Admission and discharges (1892-1955); Creed registers (1892-1944); Deaths (1895-1920);

Which look like they would cover your relatives

Hi Trish

Yes that is her.   She committed suicide by hanging at a school where she worked in Penrhiwceiber.  WelshNewpapersOnline do not have any records for 1911 and 1912 and nothing in 1910 so no information there.  Her three children were orphaned as their father died in 1907 and I cannot find any record of them anywhere.  Have tried the childrenscottagehomes.org.uk/Pontypridd website as mentioned but no success.  Thank you anyway to all who have posted a reply.
