I am trying to trace my great grandmother Ann Crook, who was born in Calne probably in April 1867 but certainly 1867-8. Daughter of Robert Crook, butcher, and Ann Crook nee Warren, who are in various censuses in Calne.
I cannot find any details of her marriage. By 1901 she was a widow living in Pancras, London, and her occupation was chiropodist on her own account. By then she had three young children, and I have obtained the birth certificates for two of them showing John Campbell, commercial traveller, as the father. However the first child (my grandfather) is a mystery as I think he had a different father. She may have married twice, or the first child was before she married. I cannot find a birth certificate for my grandfather and he may have had a different name at birth, then adopted the Campbell name later.
In 1891 she is shown as single in the census, with no occupation stated, and a visitor at Harley St, London. Earlier census records show her living in Calne with her family.
If someone could look up her birth to confirm the date, that would be wonderful. and also if they can spot her marriage, if indeed she did marry in Calne, that would be a start too.
