Henry Dixon born Whitehaven 1859?
« on: Monday 01 June 15 10:26 BST (UK) »
I am trying to glean information and family details of Henry Dixon (f William), born Whitehaven 1859?.
He spent most of his adult life in South Wales and was twice married. Firstly to Mary Jane Morgan  1887 in Swansea. They had three children. Then being a widower, he married my g.grand mother a widow Martha Davies, born Martha Lewis (f William) in 1866 Whitchurch, Solva Pembrokeshire. They had five children, maybe seven, and the children and step children lived together in Swansea and Caerau, Maesteg, Bridgend.

Henry Dixon died in 1914 following a colliery accident in Abercrave, Swansea Valley.

The nearest I can find in earlier census returns for place of birth is:
1861 Egremont, Cumberland
Henry Dixon, Head, married, 36, Labourer, born Burn Elen, Cumberland
Jane, wife, 38, born Cockermouth, Cumberland
William, son, 1[8], unm, Labourer, born Bellingham, Northumberland
Jane Ann, dau, 11, unm, Scholar, born [Haltwhistle?], Northumberland
Hannah, dau, 7, unm, Scholar, born Hensingham, Cumberland
Henry, son, 5,      "         "                "
Hensingham is only 2 miles from Whitehaven.

1851 Census gives his father's birthplace as Maryport, Cumberland and occupation as Miner.
Other children: Isabella, 5, born Coldbeck, Cumberland and
James, 1, born Haltwhistle, Northumberland

There was a Henry Dixon christened Hensingham, Cumberland 8 June 1856. Parents were Henry Dixon and Jane [no surname given].

One to add to the list perhaps!
